Cosmetic facial treatment

Much can be achieved to improve the appearance of the eyes, skin and mouth using facial fillers and wrinkle smoothing injections. Chris Bird, an experienced principal dental surgeon at this practice, carries out these treatments.

Wrinkle reduction Botulinum Toxin Type A is injected in tiny quantities to block the nerve impulses to the facial muscles which create lines. It is most effective on the frown lines and ‘crow’s feet’ around the eyes. Botulinum Toxin is a very popular treatment worldwide and it’s easy to see why. This muscle relaxant safely unlocks frowns and furrows, gently erasing the tell tale signs of age to give you back a fresh and relaxed look.

How long will it last? The treatment takes roughly 30 minutes and the improvement you will achieve from the procedure will last up to six months. You will notice a gradual fading of its effect at which point, you may return for a new treatment. The early clinical studies indicate that the duration of treatment benefits is increased over time, so that you should require injections less frequently in the future. Also, the duration of effect varies from patient to patient and may be less effective for those over 65 years of age.

Are there any side effects? Botulinum toxin is used in such small quantities that are not harmful. The most common side effects are temporary and localised bruising, slight redness of the skin and occasionally, slight swelling at the injection site. Because the effects are completely reversible, any side effects are temporary, lasting only a few hours or up to one or two days. Botulinum toxin injections have been used safely and effectively for over ten years to treat many ophthalmologic and neurological disorders. Each year thousands of patients receive botulinum toxin treatments for a variety of conditions and it is quickly becoming a popular treatment for reversing the visible signs of ageing.

Restylane Vital™ comprises three treatment sessions of very fine injections spaced four weeks apart. Treatment benefits generally last for around nine months and can be maintained by repeat treatment once or twice a year.

There are no restrictions on how often you can receive treatment. In fact, you can repeat treatment with Restylane Vital™ as often as you feel is necessary.
